SVT College of Home Science, SNDTWU, Inaugurates Three Pioneering Sustainable Initiatives in Collaboration with RUA Ecospaces LLP
Date: Mumbai, April 28, 2025
In a remarkable stride towards environmental stewardship, Sir Vithaldas Thackersey (SVT) College of Home Science (Empowered Autonomous Status), SNDT Women’s University, Juhu, Mumbai, inaugurated three transformative sustainable initiatives on the 28th April, 2025. These initiatives – a Rainwater Harvesting System, an Eco-Hub, and a Resource Efficient Vegetable Garden – were developed under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project funded by Capricon Realty, conceptualized by Dr. Hemani Malhotra, and designed and executed by RUA Ecospaces LLP.
Rainwater Harvesting System: “Nature’s Cycle, Restored”
With the philosophy of “Water is Life & Rain is Life Giving”, SVT College has taken a vital step in conserving water. The newly installed Rainwater Harvesting System captures rainwater from the terrace, channels it through down-take pipes and a filtration unit, and recharges it through a ring well. Overhauled and restored earlier this year, the ring well now supplies water to irrigate the College’s kitchen garden using a 3000-litre storage tank. Impressively, this system is expected to save approximately 16.2 lakh litres of fresh municipal water annually while also
replenishing the shallow aquifer and reducing dependence on civic water supply.
