SVT College of Home Science, SNDTWU, Inaugurates Three Pioneering Sustainable Initiatives in Collaboration with RUA Ecospaces LLP
Date: Mumbai, April 28, 2025
In a remarkable stride towards environmental stewardship, Sir Vithaldas Thackersey (SVT) College of Home Science (Empowered Autonomous Status), SNDT Women’s University, Juhu, Mumbai, inaugurated three transformative sustainable initiatives on the 28th April, 2025. These initiatives – a Rainwater Harvesting System, an Eco-Hub, and a Resource Efficient Vegetable Garden – were developed under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project funded by Capricon Realty, conceptualized by Dr. Hemani Malhotra, and designed and executed by RUA Ecospaces LLP.
Resource-Efficient Vegetable Garden: “Where Herbs Thrive & Water is Wise”
Promoting food sustainability and smart water usage, the new Resource Efficient Vegetable Garden features a diverse mix of hydroponically grown leafy greens and herbs – including spinach, mint, peppermint, basil, lettuce, red amaranthus, and pak choi – alongside traditional vegetables like brinjal, bitter gourd, and
spinach. A carefully designed irrigation system combining drip and sprinkler techniques ensures minimal water wastage while maximizing crop yield.
Speaking on the occasion, the College management highlighted that these initiatives represent SVT’s ongoing commitment to creating a greener and more resilient future, integrating sustainable practices into everyday campus life.
These impactful projects were brought to life by RUA Ecospaces LLP, a Mumbaibased green building design firm dedicated to creating sustainable, resourceefficient environments. Specializing in eco-friendly architecture, green audits, and sustainability consulting, RUA Ecospaces continues to drive positive environmental change through innovative design and execution.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the participation of students and faculty from the college, environmental experts and professionals, marking a proud milestone in the College’s journey towards environmental leadership.
