SVT College of Home Science, SNDTWU, Inaugurates Three Pioneering Sustainable Initiatives in Collaboration with RUA Ecospaces LLP

Date: Mumbai, April 28, 2025

In a remarkable stride towards environmental stewardship, Sir Vithaldas Thackersey (SVT) College of Home Science (Empowered Autonomous Status), SNDT Women’s University, Juhu, Mumbai, inaugurated three transformative sustainable initiatives on the 28th April, 2025. These initiatives – a Rainwater Harvesting System, an Eco-Hub, and a Resource Efficient Vegetable Garden – were developed under a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project funded by Capricon Realty, conceptualized by Dr. Hemani Malhotra, and designed and executed by RUA Ecospaces LLP.

Eco-Hub: “Where Upcycling Meets Off-Grid Living”

The Eco-Hub has transformed an underutilized terrace space into a vibrant, multifunctional area, a sustainable space for students to relax, study, and collaborate. Designed with creativity and environmental care, the space features upcycled metal drum chairs, tyre seatings, and tables made using a repurposed bicycle rim. Adding a touch of whimsy, frog-shaped tyre planters dot the area, bringing in greenery and fun.

The Eco-Hub is powered by solar energy, and illuminated with energy-efficient LED lighting housed in natural cane and energy-efficient brushless DC fans, the EcoHub offers students a sustainable space to study, relax, and collaborate. Lush greenery, potted plants, and wooden trellises add to the serene, nature-inspired atmosphere, fostering an eco-conscious campus culture.
