ECBC (Energy Conservation Building Code), developed by India’s Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), sets minimum energy performance standards for new commercial buildings (≥100 kW load or ≥120 kVA demand). First launched in 2007 and updated in 2017, it mandates efficient design for building envelope, HVAC, lighting, water heating, and electrical systems, while promoting renewable integration and low-carbon growth. States can adapt the code locally, with advanced levels like ECBC Plus and Super ECBC offering higher energy savings.

Key Aspects:

  • Purpose: Ensure efficient energy use in new commercial buildings.

  • Applicability: Buildings with ≥100 kW load or ≥120 kVA demand.

  • Scope: Covers building envelope, HVAC, lighting, water heating, and electrical systems.
